Our Lady of Grace Soccer
January 2010
As we kick off our indoor training I wanted to take a moment to clarify the vision for this indoor season and to outline our goals. First let me say that this indoor training is not meant to be team training but is meant to be individual training. People have questioned why our coaches are not more actively involved: this was intentional. For one this was meant to give coaches a break from soccer to reconnect with their own lives. This was also meant to put a trainer, who is actively playing soccer right now, in front of our players. These trainers that you will see each week are all volunteers. Most have played C.Y.O soccer and all are currently playing in college or on semi-professional teams. They are giving back for the love of the game. They recognize that they are responsible to share the gift of soccer they received when they were kids. We are very blessed to have them.
The number one goal for this indoor training is to raise the level of skill and ability of each player individually. Not everyone learns at the same rate nor is everyone equally capable. When the focus is only on team play and winning games, weaker players can get lost on a team that has several strong players. I believe everyone is capable of contributing something on the field and we are looking to teach kids how to improve on their own skills so we are not relying on 1,2,or 3 strong players to win a game.
As I mentioned earlier all our trainers are volunteers. I would like to ask each of you to consider donating $10 per training session for each child you bring. I will divide the proceeds among the trainers equally as a gift from you through OLG soccer. We charged only $100 for seven weeks of indoor training. This leaves us absorbing almost $2,000 in costs to cover rental expenses. I feel that Aviator is worth what we are paying for it, $1,200 every Friday night. As a result the program has no money to give as a gift to the trainers, that is why I am asking for your help!
We are planning our 09’ awards Communion Breakfast. We have purchased, labeled, and embroidered gifts for every child in the program! Please look for the date coming up soon!
